Finally.....!

Finally got some pictures of my Granny when she was small. I know so little about her side of the family so to see photos of her childhood in New Jersey really fascinates me! And (of course) I had to scrap some of them right away. Much of Webster's Pages screams vintage so I pulled out my cached reserve and broke out the scissors! Have a look.....

I am really looking forward to hearing some history on these photos so I can write it on the back (hint hint Granny). I must make time for another trip to Fair Oaks soon!

Celebrating 50 Years

We went to Sacramento this past weekend to celebrate Grandma & Grandpa Barnes' 50th Wedding Anniversary! Jeanie, Laurie, Randi, and Georgia really did a wonderful job putting it all together and we all had such a good time. It was so great to see everyone! A couple of memorable highlights were my Dad getting up there with the band and singing -- LOVED it!! -- and Gracie being completely smitten with my Uncle Steve. He gave her five dollars to get out there and dance with all the other little girls, ended up dancing with him. Then Grandma and Grandpa surprised us all when they got up to have a dance, you should have seen all the cameras swarm up to the dance floor, myself included of course! It was a wonderful time. I am so glad we were able to go! Happy Anniversary Grandma & Grandpa, you are such an amazing example to us all. We love you!

My favorite pic of the day

While I was filling birdfeeders at my folks' place in Eagle Point, a hawk kept circling around overhead, but barely higher than the roofline, and it was freaking me out! After I went in it disappeared, but a couple minutes later I could see that this was why it was circling so close. Turkeys aren't the most attractive birds, but their little chicks sure are cute! This little guy was even still a bit downy. Mama brought him over to the deer block and they ate for a minute before they went back into the brush. She kept a close watch on the sky the whole time, too. I think I was lucky to get this shot.

Introductions

So I guess this settles it, I am officially a blogger. After a year or so of blogging vicariously through the blogs of friends, acquaintances, and other curiosities I decided I was now ready to have my own, and how hard could it be? Well let me just say that after about three hours of wanting to launch my computer out of my upstairs bedroom window I finally have something resembling a slideshow on my blog. Seriously.... WTHeck!!! So maybe this won't be the spiffiest space on the web, but I guess it's my own, and out there for whoever might be interested in what's going on in our little corner of the world.

Our most recent big happenings include Mom and Dad being around for the summer in their beautiful new house in Eagle Point. It's really another world.... you get to see things you just wouldn't see in the city and for an animal-lover like me it's a real draw. The photo-ops are incredible, if you're patient. But that's another slideshow altogether and I think I better let the dust settle from getting the first one done.

My kids are amazing, Nathan just had is 17th birthday and has a steady girlfriend. This means we don't see him much but hey, he's 17. I think I only came home to sleep when I was 17 LOL so I will take what I can get!

Katelynn is headed into first grade this fall -- actually August 17th but I'm not counting the days down or anything -- and she is really excited about that. Don't get me wrong I love having both the girls home with me during the summer but Katy does get pretty bored without a lot of structure. She is incredibly smart, reads everything she sees. I can't spell words I don't want her to hear anymore cause she figures it out in about two seconds! She was also one of two kids that could read "The Cat in the Hat" at her kindergarten graduation. This is a pretty great accomplishment for a kindergartener! Maybe I'll try to get the video posted soon. She continuously amazes me, I am so incredibly proud of her.

Grace will be four in a few months and is she ever full of it. I've never seen a kid her age so good at rationalizing everything she does, she's quick with her arguments too and they always make sense. If there ever was a candidate for a debate team -- or maybe politics lol -- it's her. To top it off, she's also just about the cutest thing I've ever seen! It's hard not to give her everything she wants.

I think this is about all I can manage for today, the girls are getting pretty restless and have probably been wondering why Mommy has been hollering at the computer monitor. LOL At least I can laugh about it now! 'Til next time. :)
